The SP Hunters are set to take on the Ipswich Jets in a highly anticipated Hostplus Cup round 10 clash at the National Football Stadium tomorrow, with a 3pm kick-off. Despite the Jets languishing at the bottom of the 15-team ladder, Hunters coach Paul Aiton has cautioned his players against underestimating their opponents. “We will treat the Jets the same way we treated the Blackhawks and Northern Pride. They might not be performing well on the ladder, but at this level, you have to be prepared for anything,” Aiton emphasized. “Three straight wins would be great, but we have our own targets and goals, both as a team and individually. We want to focus on getting the little things right in each training session and not dwell on last week’s results. This is a new battle, and we are focused and ready.” Aiton will field the same forward pack, except for Jordan Pat, who is out with a head injury from last weekend. Props Valentine Richard and Anthony Worot will lead the charge, supported by second-rowers Whallan Tau-Loi, Benji Kot, and captain Ila Alu at lock. The centre pairing of Alex Max and Elijah Roltinga remains unchanged, with Clent Lama stepping in as the 18th man for Gairo Voro. Wingers Brendan Nima and Solo Wane, along with fullback Sanny Wabo, will complete the backline.
Hunters five-eighth Joshua Lau also echoed Aiton’s sentiments, underscoring the need to respect their opposition. “Jets are a quality side and they can surprise you. As a team, we’ve talked about doing the basics right, staying focused on our game plan, and not worrying too much about our position. I have confidence in our boys, and hopefully, we can secure a win in front of our fans and family this weekend,” Lau said. Lau will partner with Jamie Mavoko in the halves, while the versatile Finley Glare, after a standout performance at halfback last weekend, returns to his utility role on the interchange bench. As the SP Hunters aim for a third consecutive victory, fans can expect a thrilling encounter as they look to continue their climb up the competition ladder. Also read Comments are closed.
