PNG SP Hunters Lose Key Player as Tommy Moide Resigns for Personal Priorities

Papua New Guinea SP Hunters, middle-forward Tommy Moide has officially resigned from the team after a single season in the Hostplus Cup. The announcement was made by Hunters chief executive Scott Barker, confirming Moide's departure due to his desire to focus on personal priorities, including family and career goals.

Barker stated, “I can confirm that Tommy Moide has resigned. He asked to step down to concentrate on his health, family, and career. We respect that, and we wish him well on his new journey.”

The 27-year-old Moide, who made 17 appearances for the Hunters in his debut season, took to social media on Saturday to share his decision. In a Facebook post, Moide expressed gratitude to family and friends for their support over the past 12 months and announced his departure from the team.

“Officially resigning from PNG SP Hunters,” Moide posted. “Thank you family and friends for showing your support in the past 12 months. Now I move on with life, and I believe God has set a greener pasture for me. I made this decision for the betterment of my family. Wishing my brothers all the best in this year’s competition. I will continue to cheer you guys on. Hunter No.115 signing out.”

Moide's contributions during his debut season included scoring four tries in 17 appearances, contributing to seven wins and nine losses. Prior to joining the SP Hunters, he had spent several years with the Lae Tigers in the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup.

The Hanuabada native had actively participated in the 2024 preseason camp, showcasing commitment and dedication during both stage one and stage two of the preseason training.

The SP Hunters now face the challenge of adapting to the squad changes brought about by Moide's departure as they gear up for the upcoming competitions.
