THE 2024 preseason camp for SP Hunters in the Hostplus Cup will start this week with the announcement of the head coach and wider squad, says chief executive officer Scott Barker. With the resignation of outgoing coach Stanley Tepend last month, it seems likely that that assistant Paul Aiton would step up for the top post to guide the club in the new season. “Pre-season starts this week. We will have an announcement of the head coach and training squad later this week,” Barker told The National yesterday. Hunters were two places shy of making the finals and finished 10th in the overall rankings this year. Despite the botched playing year, the Hunters had some memorable moments which saw electric fullback Morea Morea taking out the prestigious Hostplus Cup Rookie of the Year award.
In preparation for the 2024 spell, the training squad would feature bulk of the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup’s best performers and the Hunters recurrent players as they work hard to earn a spot in the final team. The Port Moresby-based franchise would be resetting for a fresh season after a futile effort this year in the tier-two Queensland rugby league competition.
