FORMER Kumul Rod Griffin is still available for international duties.
Grffin, who plays for the Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup, said he was willing to play for the country if given an opportunity. The 28-year-old prop, who is originally from Enga made the comments following his side’s 40-28 loss to the SP Hunters in Sunday’s Q-Cup Round 13 fixture at Kalabond Oval in Kokopo. In an interview at Tokua Airport on Monday, Griffin, who was picked for the Queensland Residents XIII earlier this year, said he was always glad to play for the national team. “I’m always prepared to play for the Kumuls if I’m given the nod and like other aspiring players, I’m still knocking on the door to represent PNG,” Griffin said. “It’s not easy making the Kumuls especially since the Hunters came onto the scene. The players are getting better and playing quality football but I’d be happy to represent the Kumuls again.” Griffin said injury and other personal issues had kept him from putting his hand up over the years since making his debut in the red, black and gold as a 21-year-old at the 2008 World Cup. Griffin, who started his career as a lock, is the Jets best-preformed forward, consistently topping tackle counts and hit-ups for the second-placed Ipswich side. Comments are closed.
