SUPPORTERS of Papua New Guinea Hunters in Madang wiped out cheap replica jumpers of the popular team sold by vendors on the streets last Thursday and Friday.
The many grassroots supporters in Madang unable to shop for the authentic ones online on the Hunters’ website or at a Da Edge shop in faraway Lae and Port Moresby found the replica good enough. The street sellers said a supplier in Lae sent the relica jumpers over for them. They could not identify the supplier. A quick inspection of a sample showed “Lucky Star”printed on the tag at the back of the neck as the manufacturer with no further details including country of manufacture. The uniforms for Hunters are manufactured by Australian-based pro-sports apparel producer, BLK (www.blksport.com). The vendors were also selling replicas of the Lae Snax Tigers and SNS Port Moresby Vipers. The Hunters replica jumper is a very light nylon garment and has longer sleeves compared to the authentic one the clubuses. The Hunters replica jumper is similar to the cheap imitations of NRL and Kumul jumpers and supporters shirts sold by Chinese shops around the country with “Lucy Star” being a common label on the tags of those imitations. Another popular label of the Chinese imitations is “Rugby”. The imitation Kumul uniforms and supporters shirts are mostlysold in the Chinese shops and on the streets. It could not be ascertained whether PNG Rugby Football League or Team Kumuls Ltd have contracted these retailers to mass produce cheap imitations of the Kumuls brand. Comments are closed.
