PNG Hunters go-to-man Adex Wera returns back to full-back following the hamstring injury to Albert Patak for their round 16 clash with the Mackay Cutters away.
Wera, who has come out of the wood-work with his sparkling form in the number one jersey, has won his favoured position back following the injury to Albert Patak on Saturday. The man from Chimbu had to bide his time on the wing after returning from a knee injury, due to Patak reveling after switching from the centres. Patak who had to be helped off the field in the last quarter of the match against the Redcliffe Dolphins, posted a try in another strong outing. Coach Michael Marum yesterday confirmed that Patak has been ruled out for the next four weeks, but is still hopeful that his gun utility back may return earlier if he responds well to physiotherapy. “Adex (Wera) who did the job for us in round one will return and basically we don’t lose much in that area,” Marum said. Marum said that whilst numbers are down on available hands to do the job, he does have several utility players including Lawrence Tu’u that can handle any of the back positions as well. Regular bench warmer Edward Goma also gets his chance to prove himself with a starting role on the wing as well. “We have the full compliment of our forwards with the return of Timothy Lomai from suspension, so that gives us added strength to draw from,” he said. Marum said they have issues with their defence alignment, which they will be working over the next few days to rectify with video sessions of the game. The Hunters, sitting in second position boast the best attacking record scoring more points (375) than any other side in the 13-teamcompetition. The game is at 6pm at Stadium Mackay with the reigning premiers looking to make amends following their Round 2 loss to the Hunters in Kokopo. Hunters: 1. Adex Wera 2. Garry Lo 3. Thompson Teteh 4.
