PNG Hunters have overcome Central Queensland Capras fight with a strong victory 16 - 12 in front for a large crowd at Marley Brown Oval.
The Capras scored first to take the lead 6 - 0 at 15th minutes. The Hunters fought back in at the 25th minute to level the scored through Willie Moniga. Hunters scored another try to take the lead at half time 12 - 6. The return of captain Israel Eliab and David Loko made a huge difference as the Hunters played more constructive football. This was proved when the Hunters struck early in the 43rd minute through David Loko who put on a left foot step to score near the post. Conversion was unsuscceful and Hunters lead 16 - 6. After maintaining the pressure, the Capras finally managed to cross the line after Guy Williams looked to pass and put on a left foot step to deceive the Hunters defense and fly in to score. The try was converted to bring back the score to 16-12 ball game with 20 minutes remaining. Several more attempts by the Capras to win the game back in the dying minutes were diffused by the Hunters who put up a brick wall to restrict any more points being scored. Dion Aiye and Adam Korave pulled off try saving tackles to deny the Capras any points. The victory for Hunters is their seventh win. They will play the South Logan Magpies next week in Kokopo.
