The SP PNG Hunters have bolstered their forward pack for this season, with the signing of Chimbu heavyweight Dilbert Isaac. The 26-year-old from Chuave in Chimbu Province may almost be the replica of Esau Siune, a lean prop who is looking forward for a challenging year. He said the senior players are helping them cope with pressure as the defending champions. He said the country’s expectation of a back-to-back premiership is also pushing them to the limit. “Right now, young players like us, are looking forward to the first trial against Brisbane Broncos. I made my Digicel Cup debut in 2014. I also played for the TNA Lions for two seasons and played in a grand final in 2015. In the same year, I joined up with the Hela Wigmen and last year, I played for the Agmark Rabaul Gurias grand final losing team. “The new guys have a lot of pressure on us to perform but with the help of senior players like Enock Maki we know we can share the workload and pressure,” Isaac said. Isaac, who is a prop, is happy with the mentorship in camp and looks forward to standing side by side with the rest of the forward pack. “The senior players are always on hand to correct and mentor us; hopefully on the field, we can share the same bond standing side by side for the Hunters,” he said. “I am a specialist prop and my goal is to hopefully complete the season without injury and make the best 17 every weekend. “The training for the first few weeks was intense, coming from a Digicel Cup team like the Agmark Rabaul Gurias. “We do a lot of training but at the Hunters it’s to another level. The training is getting short but still tough.” _Post Courier Comments are closed.
