THE Papua New Guinea Hunters will be missing the services of attacking maestro Thompson Teteh after the centre broke his ribs in Saturdays’ 14-8 loss to the Easts Tigers.
The Hunters face the Wynnum Manly Seagulls at Kalabond Oval on Sunday in their Round 4 Queensland Cup fixture. Filling in for the Kumul centre is Ase Boas, who is normally a halfback. Hunters’ coach Michael Marum said at the start of the season that Boas would be used in a wide range of roles this season. Teteh scored two tries for the visitors and was in ominous touch — making the most of his pace and agility. Marum admitted that the side made more than its fair share of errors and ball control was not good. He said the kicking game, last tackle plays and options needed to be better if the side was to trouble the competition’s best sides. The goal kicking was a concern as well. Marum said he expected an improvement in these areas when his side played the Seagulls but with Teteh out and fullback/winger Adex Wera struggling to be fit for Sunday’s match after picking up a sternum injury, the side would lose some potency. “Wera is in Port Moresby at the moment waiting for his scan results to come in but for Thompson Teteh, he will miss at least six weeks with a cracked rib,” Marum said. Forwards Sebastian Pandia and Timothy Lomai are still out with injury, while goal-kicking utility Noel Zeming will have to wait another week to get back into the side with a groin injury. Halves combination Israel Eliab and Roger Laka will have to pick up from last week’s effort, especially with the boot at Tap Out Stadium in Brisbane. Hunters: 1. Stargroth Amean 2. Bland Abavu 3.
