The SP PNG Hunters surpassed the half century mark as they crushed Central Queensland Capras 68-4 in this afternoons Round 16 Intrust Super Cup match at the Kalabond Oval.
Our boys were too classy for the Capras putting on a razzle-dazzle style of footy to entertain the home crowd at the graveyard. The match seem all but over for the visitors in the first half as the Hunters went into the sheds at half time with a 34-0 lead. The Hunters came out in the second stanza and added two more tries in quick succession to extend their lead to 44-0 before Capras replied with their own try and first points of the match out wide to trail by 44-4. The visitors first points brought a huge roar around the grounds from the Kokopo home crowd. But the celebrations was short lived as the attention shifted back the to home team as Hunters continue to find holes in the Capras defence that led to few more tries. Captain Israel Eliab was rewarded for his back up plays as he scored four tries in the match. His first try came in the first half while his next three came in the second half. Meanwhile thanks to Northern Prides 20-14 win over the Ipswich Jets has seen Hunters jump up to second spot on the points ladder overtaking Jets (24 points) with 26 points apiece with Townsville Blackhawks on first place with a bettter for and against.
