TWO Papua New Guinea Hunters players have been dropped on disciplinary issues as
they face a quality side in the Ipswich Jets whom they lost 25-12 to in Round 6 at the North Ipswich Reserve. Enforcer, David Loko and George Benson have been pulled out of the line-up after missing a video session and two recovery sessions and coach Michael Marum is not a man to be trifled with. “David Loko and George Benson have been pulled out of this weekend lineup due to disciplinary issues. “These are two of my most experienced players but because they breached the strict guidelines set for all the players we had no choice but to pull them off for this weekend,” Marum said. The Hunters have their last home game for the season tomorrow, a crucial Round 23 match up against the team that sits three points above them in fifth spot. The Jets are on 30 points, while the Hunters on 27 points and their finals hopes rest on winning this match as they play their last two games of the Queensland Cup on the road before a bye in Round 26 completes their debut season. “This is a rule that is applied all across the board. No exceptions. They are all good boys but it’s things like this that I won’t tolerate. They left without notifying anyone of their whereabouts and this is unacceptable. “It’s tough at this time when Adam Korave is still out on injury and this is the match we’ve been looking forward to tell us whether we are in finals contention,” Marum said. Utility Noel Zeming, suffering from groin and ankle injury, has been given up to the eleventh hour to prove his fitness but Marum is optimistic. “We’ve made no definite decision on who should replace Loko and Benson but utility Lawrence Tu’u played second-row last week and prop Stanton Albert is available, while we were awaiting for Zeming to prove his fitness.” The Hunters last three home matches have been against lower rung teams and Marum made no secret of the fact that tomorrow’s game was the one that would indicate whether his side were deserving of a finals spot. “The Jets won’t be easily intimated as they are quality side who beat us earlier in the season. They have experience and flair.” Kokopo league fans have been encouraged to turn out in numbers for the last Q-Cup home game. The match kicks off at 2.30pm at Kalabond Stadium. Comments are closed.
