The SP PNG Hunters are one step closer to claiming the prestigious Hostplus Cup title after defeating the Sunshine Coast Falcons 24-10 in a semi-final clash at Sunshine Coast Stadium, Australia. The win propels the Hunters into the preliminary final, where they will face the Norths Devils for a chance to secure a spot in the grand final. The Falcons dominated the opening 20 minutes of the match, maintaining possession and pressuring the Hunters' defense. Despite their efforts, the Falcons struggled to break through the Hunters’ resilient defense, failing to gain an early lead. Hunters winger Brandon Nima scored the first try of the match in the 21st minute, followed by a second from Judah Rimbu in the 34th minute, giving the Hunters a 10-0 lead at halftime. The Falcons found it difficult to capitalize on their opportunities in the first half.
In the second half, the Falcons responded with tries from Young Tonumaipea and Flynn Camilleri, reducing the deficit to 10-8. However, the Hunters quickly regained momentum with tries from Solo Wane and Elijah Roltinga, extending their lead. The game concluded with a final try from Whallan Tau-Loi in the 79th minute, sealing the Hunters' 24-10 victory.
