Wartovo Puara was tonight recognised as the SP PNG Hunters’ outstanding player all year round after receiving the SP Player of the Year award at the Hunters presentation dinner.
Puara is one of the fastest players and is considered the back bone of the team and for a young man of his size, his defence has been brutal all year. He has good decision making on what is probably the toughest position, as hooker, to play in the game. His performance this year has also landed him a starting spot in the upcoming Prime Ministers 13 match on Oct 12 in Kokopo. In other Awards, the Digicel Top Points Scorer went to Noel Zeming for scoring 17 tries and kicking 51 goals. Garry Lo picked up the Carmichael Builders Top Try Scorer with 25 tries including four tries against South Logan and four more against Burleigh Bears. Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko congratulated the players for their achievement and being good ambassadors. He thanked captain Eliab for his good leadership and coach Michael Marum for his time and effort towards the Hunters’ success.
