The PNGRFL Chairman & CEO have today spoken out against fake and unauthorised SP PNG Hunters, Team Kumul, PNGRFL and Digicel Cup merchandise, currently available in PNG.
Chairman Sandis Tsaka said it would not be tolerated and the PNGRFL will take action to protect its PNGRFL, Team Kumul and Hunters brands; “This has been happening for to long in PNG and it infuriates me that foreigners can come into our country and take advantage our national sporting teams without investing back into the game of Rugby League. I know it has been happening for a long time with Digicel Cup teams and the Kumuls and it is now happening with the Hunters, but it will not be tolerated anymore. We are undertaking our own investigations, finding out which wholesalers and retail outlets are selling unauthorised Hunters, PNGRFL, Team Kumul or Digicel Cup product and reporting them to police to take action. We expect the police to take action on these unauthorised retailers and wholesalers to the full extent of the law.” “It is identical to the issues faced by the Digicel Cup teams and the franchise owners who contribute their own funds to have a national competition and regional teams compete. These illegal wholesalers and retailers are taking money out of each clubs pocket, which they need to run their operations. The PNGRFL is saying NO MORE and want this to stop. We are now putting these wholesalers and retailers on notice that if they continue to sell illegal merchandise they will be found and will be reported to police.” CEO Brad Tassell said the PNGRFL were disappointed the problem has never been addressed: “We expected this to happen at some stage with the Hunters gear and have been on the lookout for it. All of the PNGRFL brands are copyrighted and owned by the PNGRFL and it is illegal to use our brands without prior approval. The fake merchandise also carries our sponsor’s brands and the Queensland Rugby League brand, which again is unauthorised and illegal. The Queensland Rugby League has been notified and they and the PNGRFL are taking this matter very seriously. Comments are closed.
