The Papua New Guinea SP Hunters defeated East Tigers in a close encounter 24 - 22 at the Kalabond Oval over the weekend. This is the first ever win against the Tigers since the Hunters starting playing in the Intrust Supper Cup competition.
Kalabond Oval was filled to capacity with thousands of supporters to witness the second and sixth of the table clash and this was the last game that was played in Kalabond. The win sees Hunters equal on the top of the table with Blackhawks but for and against still favors the Blackhawks. The East tigers showed signs of maintaining there lead in the dying stages when sloppy defense could not contain the SP Hunters pace man, Adex Wera stepped and dodged tackles eventually breaking free to run past the tigers fullback before scoring near to uprights to seal the match as the Sp Hunters continue their dominant form in the competition. East tigers after leading in the first half of the match, had to make sure they maintain their lead but could not do so as the Hunters continued on the hunt for more points to close the marging before halftime trailing 16 - 18. The first half was a neck and neck affair. Both teams were on the attack looking for points. In the second half Hunters came back strongly. Both teams continued their hunt for points consequently rewarding themselves with tries a piece. East tigers throwing everything in their tank against the SP Hunters defense but the Home side defended well to maintain their lead until the fulltime siren sounded coming out victors on a, 24 – 22 scoreline. The Hunters travel to Australia next week to take on the Ipswich Jets before returning to Sir John Guise Stadium the following week to take on the Manly Seagulls. Comments are closed.
