In a thrilling development for Papua New Guinea Hunters fans, halfback Jamie Mavoko is set to make his return from injury for their pivotal Hostplus Cup Round 21 encounter against the Tweed Heads Seagulls this Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 3pm. Mavoko’s comeback is a major boost for the Hunters, who have been struggling with their form. Initially, coach Paul Aiton had planned to use utility Joshua Mire in the halfback role during the week’s training. However, Mavoko’s return has shifted Mire to the 18th man spot for the crucial fixture at the National Football Stadium. The Seagulls have announced a formidable lineup, featuring PNG Kumuls forward Jacob Alick, who will play in the second-row. Additionally, Iszac Fa’asuamaleaui, the younger brother of Queensland and Australia star Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, will lead the Seagulls’ forward pack in the front-row. The halves will be controlled by the experienced Tom Weaver and Tom Steadman, promising a challenging game for the Hunters.
For the Hunters, this game is a must-win if they are to keep their finals hopes alive. Front-rower Jordan Pat emphasized the importance of the match, stating, “This is an important game for us and for myself. I believe my fellow front-rowers and I need to run hard and tackle with intensity.” Pat also noted that he plans to improve his performance from the previous week with harder hit-ups and more impactful tackles. Fullback Sanny Wabo echoed Pat’s sentiments, expressing his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success by connecting effectively with Mavoko, Joshua Lau, and Judah Rimbu in attack. “I’m looking forward to getting involved and linking up with the spine in attack,” Wabo said. Coach Aiton has urged his players to adhere to the strategies that have been successful this season and to play the ‘Hunters way’ in front of their home crowd. The Hunters’ lineup for the game is as follows:
14. Finley Glare 15. Jordan Pat 16. Junior Talin 17. Junior Rop Reserve: 18. Joshua Mire Fans are eagerly anticipating what promises to be an intense and crucial clash as the Hunters aim to secure a vital victory. Also read Comments are closed.
