PAPUA New Guinea Hunters coach Michael Marum has reminded his players not to be complacent as they approach the business end of the Queensland Cup season.
Marum said it was important not to lose concentration as momentum would be a bonus for any team heading into the finals. “From a Saturday or a Sunday game when we win, on Monday players don’t turn up on time,” Marum said. “Those really small things are the ones we’re working at pushing out to make sure we don’t become complacent heading into the finals.” Marum said he was pleased with the progress and attitude of his players as they had improved in leaps and bounds since debuting. He was particularly impressed with the combinations the players had built over the last two seasons. “I think the good thing that we’ve really worked on this year is the combinations. “The guys are enjoying each other’s company on the field and at training as well so this has really helped build strong combinations for us all over the park.” He said the minor premiership was the least of their worries as they were only concentrating on this weekend’s game. They go up against eighth-placed Cutters in Mackay on Saturday and then return home to face the visiting Burleigh Bears the following Sunday. The Cutters and seventh-placed Dolphins are still in contention to make the finals. Of the two, the Cutters have a slimmer chance as they must win their last two matches and hope Dolphins lose at least one of theirs and Pride lose both their matches. Comments are closed.
