The first round match is scheduled for 3pm on Sunday (March 11) at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
After a strong outing against the Brisbane Broncos on February 24, the Hunters proved they are a formidable side heading into their opening match. Despite losing 26-12 to the Broncos, they showed aggression and structure.
The players were impressive in the game and despite niggling penalties coach Michael Marum, said it was a good performance.
“I was proud of the way the team played. I thought apart from the few errors and penalties on play, the balls our halves controlled our attack really well. It was a good team effort against a top NRL side and we can only get better,” Marum said.
Marum will be naming the team today at the team’s training this afternoon.
“The trial match has given us a good indication of how our pre-season went and what areas of our game we need to focus bit more on,” he said.
