RABAUL Gurias utility Silas Gahuna has ruled himself out of SP Hunters re-selection as he aims to help the 2015 Digicel Cup premiers break their title drought.
The 25-year-old has been in and out of the Hunters squad since joining the 2017 Queensland Intrust Super Cup premiers in 2016.
But the Papua New Guinea nines representative says he has now settled in with the Gurias after joining the third-placed side in the pre-season.
“I’m enjoying every moment playing for the Gurias,” Gahuna said.
“They have a strong culture which is built around strict discipline.
“It doesn’t matter if you are a representative or senior player, everyone is required to follow club guidelines.
“I see the same in the Lae Tigers who joined the semi-professional competition after the Gurias.
“On top of that, player welfare is good.
“I believe if every club follows such standards then our competition will reach another level.”
The Baruni villager, who had a stint as hooker with Gulf Isou, said he still had his best football ahead of him.
“I think I’ve played enough for the Hunters,” Gahuna said.
“Let the young and new recruits have a go. “My only focus is to play good football for the Gurias and enjoy my time in the Digicel Cup.
“If I get a call-up to play for the PNG Prime Minister’s 13 or Kumuls then it’ll be great.
“But I’ve settled in with the Gurias. My aim is to win the Digicel Cup this year.
“I believe we have what it takes to do so but we just have to work hard every week.”
