The inclusion of former Hunters players in the likes of Willie Minoga, Gary Lo and David Loko did not help as Burleigh Bears held off the Hunters 24 - 6 at the National Football stadium in Port Moresby in a we condition this afternoon. The visitors got off to a 12 – 0 lead at halftime. After getting a two point penalty in the 14th minute Jamal Fogarty would race away to score after what was perceived to be a knock-on was let go by the referee. Bears held onto their 8 point lead until the 38th minute when a Fogarty kick was allowed to be caught by the Bears and find Josh Berkers who would score for a 12 point lead at the break. The Hunters picked up their momentum in the second half and were rewarded when Gary Lo scored in the 52nd minute. Despite a mountain of possession in the Bears territory, the Hunters were unable to convert into points. The Bears got a break in the 62nd minute after penalty gifting them two extra points. Four minutes later the Troy Leo broke the defensive line to sprint 80 metres to score, extending the Bears lead 20 – 6. The winger bagged his second six minutes from full time for 24 – 6 score.
