HUNTERS coach Michael Marum
said a poor first half cost his side a win against the Norths Devils on Sunday. The no-nonsense coach did not mince his words on returning to Port Moresby with the team yesterday. “We did badly in the first half. We gave away really, really soft tries and tried to play catch up football but it just didn’t work out,” Marum said on arrival at the Jackson Airport. “(Our) Combinations are there, but simple errors like dropped balls and mistakes in there made it hard for us to comeback. “We’ll go through that during training and fix it.”Marum said his side had comeback before to run down leads but they could not do it week in week out because their style was being studied by opposition sides.“We did well in matches playing catchup and running down leads but each game is a different contest and we need to play accordingly. These guys (Q-Cup sides) have been watching our games and stuff like that, so we need to work harder in training,” Marum added. On the injury front, lock Adam Korave and centre Thompson Tete are under injury clouds following their loss to Norths Devils in Brisbane over the weekend. Tete and Korave went in for medical checks yesterday with the details and extent of their injuries unclear. The South Pacific Brewery-sponsored side arrived yesterday after a dismal first half performance that left too much to do against a committed Norths side. Although trailing throughout the match the Hunters went down all guns blazing in a fiery second half performance losing 32-24 to the Devils. Winger Garry Lo was a standout in a lackluster performance with the Western Highlander a double the first of which was an 80-metre solo effort. With injury worries and also illness to captain Israel Eliab, the Hunters will have a short turn around for the Central Queensland Capras game this weekend and to work harder to control the ball in contact and to limit errors. The Hunters thrashed the QC Capras in round two of the Intrust Super Cup in Kokopo 46-12 but facing the Capras at home will be a daunting task with just four days of training before they leave for Gladstone for the Round 12 clash.
