HUNTERS coach Michael Marum says a win over the Ipswich Jets will give him a clear indication on his side’s premiership chances in 2015.
“Obviously, we want to win this game. “I think victory over a top team like the Jets would give us a clear indication of where we are in the competition,” Marum said. The Round 13 Queensland Cup fixture at the Kalabond Oval, Kokopo, on Sunday pits two form teams in the competition — both have won their last five matches — and a win for Marum’s men would cement their fourth place while the Jets would be eyeing top spot with a win. “After the win over Townsville a fortnight ago, we’re looking to make the finals and I’m sure Ipswich will give us a hard game but we’re not looking too far ahead at this stage. “We’re going to take games one at a time and focus on every task at hand.” The record between the two sides is 1-1, with the Jets beating the Hunters 25-12 in Round 6 last year before the South Pacific Brewery-sponsored side won the return match 40-22. Marum said he was pleased with the maturity the side had displayed in their last match and expected the senior players to take the lead again. “It’s good to see our senior player’s starting to take the lead in games. “We saw in the last match guys like Thompson Teteh start to organise the backline in defence and that was pleasing.” The 41-year-old said his side had reacted in the best possible manner against the Blackhawks by taking the challenge head on and putting a more polished performance. “There was a lot of talk in the lead-up to that Blackhawks game and the messages we were getting from the public and the media was that it would be our toughest challenge yet. “I’m proud of how the boys responded,” Marum said. “We just have to keep doing what we are doing, improve on that and not worry too much about the opposition.” Marum admitted he had been following the press on the Jets and said they were backing themselves to be the first side to beat the Hunters at home in 2015. “The Jets are backing themselves to get the win and they’ve been saying that all week but we’ll let them talk because actions speak louder than words.” Marum said with the inclusion of forward muscle in Timothy Lomai, Brandy Peter and Sebastian Pandia into his 20-member extended squad, the final 17 would be named this afternoon. The match will be telecast live on TVWAN at 2.30pm. The National

Hunters did really well to win against the Ipswich Jets. Although at one stage the score was level. Jets are a good side. Marum's boys were performing at their best once again and defeated Jets with a really good margin. The second season to Hunters, they have won many away games which is also good for their confidence. Keep winning the coming games, Hunters, esspecially the top teams and the away games. With you Hunters all the way! Comments are closed.
